A good coach has a vision

my philosophy

It is my philosophy that sport teach life skills. The equestrian sport is unique in that while times have changed and technology has taken over much of the world, the horses have not changed much. (Unless you want to take into account that breeding for specific purposes and the ability to produce better equestrian athletes certainly has forged ahead).
Veterinary care and farrier care have improved exponentially, but the horses still have the same needs as they have always had. Their instincts, being creatures of flight, have not changed. Their desire to be a part of a herd and have someone who is their leader is the premise that they function on. The horse does not understand the latest legislation on human rights, they can deflate the most pompous person and they can build up the shyest one. That will all depend upon whether the riders can leave their egos at the farm gate and enter the world of horses as the horses dictate.
Horses are the most wonderful creatures, sometimes you need to be passive, gentle and understanding with them, and at other times they need you to be more aggressive, proving to them that you are the dominant one in the herd.  By being dominant (never out of anger), it means to them that you are their protector. As a mentor of mine once said, “respect is 9/10 fear”. They want and need guidelines and boundaries. Much the same as the human race. Ergo This sport teaches life skills.

It must be noted that this program is in no way endorsed by Equestrian Canada, but is the business of a Trained   Master Coach Developer under that system. Clients who have access to qualified professionals in their areas should use the local professionals whenever possible. “in the moment” training will always be the best way to receive feedback. This program is to aid and assist clients who do not have access to certified mentors in the Equestrian Canada (EC) Coaching System and who believe in the system used by our sport governing body and by Sport Canada (SC) and The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC).
